    Proposed Bylaws Change:

The ALAO Board proposes adjusting the terms of the Public Relations / Outreach Coordinator position. Please review the changes below and vote on the proposed change.

Current language Section 2. Terms of Office. The President, Vice President/President-Elect, and Past President serve one-year terms. The Secretary, Treasurer, Membership Chair, and Public Relations/Outreach Coordinator serve two-year terms. The Members-at-Large serve staggered two-year terms.

Proposed language Section 2. Terms of Office. The President, Vice President/President-Elect, and Past President serve one-year terms. The Secretary, Treasurer, and Membership Chair serve two-year terms. The Public Relations/Outreach Coordinator serves two and one half years, with six months of overlap between the terms of the incoming and outgoing Coordinators. The Members-at-Large serve staggered two-year terms.

Rationale: Extending the Public Relations/Outreach Coordinator position ensures continuity on the Conference Program Planning Committee, an essential role for this position. The incumbent will effectually service in the position through the final Annual Conference of the 2.5 year term.

Participants are encouraged to bring a local curricular problem or opportunity to discuss with their colleagues in the breakout session.

    Noon Boxed lunch

1:00pm Afternoon Presentation and Break Out Session:

Ann Marie Smeraldi from Cleveland State University will present- Get the Party Started: Campus Collaborations that Support Information Literacy Initiatives

A successful information literacy program, like any good party, begins with strategic planning and a crowd of eager participants. Identifying and inviting campus partners to promote information literacy initiatives and embed them within the curriculum and programs is not an easy task, but these collaborations are essential if librarians hope to move beyond the one-shot and create meaningful learning experiences for first-year students and opportunities for library assessment.  During this session, participants will hear about one librarian’s experiences working with campus partners and its impact on the library program. Hands on exercises will assist participants in identifying their instruction goals, evaluating their campus environment, and outlining a plan to get the party started.  Instruction librarians eager to break out of the constraints imposed by one-shots will enjoy this opportunity to explore new strategies for freeing themselves and their students.
