The Academic Library Association of Ohio (ALAO) Continuing Education Grant is awarded each year to support the cost of participating in professional development opportunities such as conferences, workshops, seminars, which are related to the member’s current position or in pursuit of a professional library degree. Current ALAO members are eligible to apply for funds to defray the costs of attending any library-related educational opportunity occurring during the calendar year.

Grant recipient(s) will be notified in late March by members of the Professional Development Committee.
The ALAO Professional Development Committee (PDC) will select the application(s) that best explain how the grant will further the applicant's professional development or career goals, the extent of financial support for the applicant from their employer or other source (if any), intended use of funds, and completeness of application. Please consult the rubric for additional guidance in completing the application. Preference will be given to Ohio residents or employees of Ohio libraries
The award amount may change year to year but is typically $2,500. The amount of money available for the 2021 Continuing Education Grant Program is $2,500. These funds may be awarded to one individual or divided among two or more top-ranked applicants. After selecting the grant winner(s), the committee may choose to select an applicant to receive an Honorable Mention Award, which will range between $100-$200 if awarded. Recipients of Honorable Mention Awards are eligible to apply again in the next award cycle. The PDC will notify award recipients by the end of March, 2021. Within thirty days of the educational event, the recipient must submit a brief report to the PDC confirming proof of attendance.
Recipients may use the grants to attend any library-related event or educational opportunity. If the event costs less than the amount of the grant, ALAO will not provide the excess money to the recipient. If the amount of the grant awarded is less than the cost of the event, the recipient is responsible for the balance.
The call for grant applications will be publicized in the ALAO newsletter, the web site and other appropriate online media. The application deadline is March 19, 2021. The PDC will notify award recipients and will arrange payment. Within thirty days of the educational event, the recipient must submit a brief report to the PDC confirming proof of attendance.
The PDC will announce the grant winner(s) in the ALAO Newsletter and on the ALAO web site, and the winner(s) will be recognized at the annual conference.
