ALAO and SWON Libraries Consortium are partnering on a series of 3-4 webinars a year. Webinars will allow attendees to hear about exciting new opportunities and participate in a dialogue with the presenters.

For the first ALAO/SWON Innovation Conversation, we present:

Members of The Ohio State University Libraries Research Services Team will discuss the vision and mission guiding its new Research Commons; their current efforts to support data management, GIS, and Digital Humanities; and their plans to expand support for digital research.

Meris Mandernach is the Head of Research Services at Ohio State University where she is responsible for providing leadership in the areas of developing, refining, assessing and sustaining an evolving program of research services for faculty, researchers, and students throughout the university. Her MS in Library and Information Sciences is from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and she has over 14 years of experience in various academic libraries. She regularly presents at a national level and her research focuses on interactive library exhibits, planning and implementing interdisciplinary research services and spaces, and understanding user needs to improve library services.

Amanda Rinehart joined the University Libraries in 2014 as the OSU’s first Data Management Services Librarian. Amanda came to Ohio State from Illinois State University, where she was the Data Librarian and Head of the Digital and Data Services Department. Previously, she was E-Science Librarian at Brown University, and worked for 11 years at the U.S. Horticultural Research Library of the USDA. She received her MLIS from the University of South Florida, MS at Michigan State University, and a BA from Kenyon College.

Josh Sadvari is the Research Commons Program Manager & GIS Specialist at The Ohio State University Libraries. In this role, he is responsible for managing the space and services of the Research Commons, establishing partnerships with research support units across campus, coordinating education and training opportunities for the campus community on topics covering all phases of the research lifecycle, and connecting faculty and student researchers at their point of need with appropriate research support services. As the Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Specialist, he is responsible for conducting training sessions to support GIS research projects and acting as a project consultant for faculty and students working with geospatial data and tools across the university.

Leigh Bonds supports the active community of faculty and students producing digital scholarship in the arts and humanities as OSUL’s new—and first—Digital Humanities Librarian. In this capacity, she fosters interdisciplinary and interdepartmental collaborations, maintains an inventory of campus resources, consults on tools and methods, and coordinates DH outreach and instruction through the Research Commons. Previously the Digital Research Services Librarian for the Humanities at Case Western Reserve University, Leigh coordinated the formation of OH|DH in 2015 and hosts web meetings for the network of digital humanities and digital scholarship librarians each semester. A textual scholar and digital humanist, Leigh holds a PhD in English Literature from Texas Tech University.

Brian C. Gray is the ALAO Past President and Team Leader Research Services at the Kelvin Smith Library (Case Western Reserve University).
