We are excited to announce the SCAig 2024 Annual Workshop, "Amplifying Voices: Inclusivity and Community Building in Digitization and Digital Preservation." This workshop is free for ALAO members and will take place on:

Tuesday, June 4th 2:00PM - 3:00PM EST virtually on Zoom.

Registration will be open until Friday, May 31.

This hour-long event will consist of two presentations. Each presentation will run about 20 minutes followed by a 15-minute Q&A session. The first presentation will focus on how to integrate DEI values into digitization workflows, while the second presentation will discuss how Digital Humanities tools and resources are being used to amplify the voices and experiences of Black women in the rural Midwest, as well as how students are helping to create a digital archive of those materials in the classroom.

Joining us as presenters are:

  • Alyssa Pierce, Digital Preservation Manager, Case Western Reserve University, presenting: "Doing the Work: Incorporating DEI into Digitization and Preservation."
  • Dr. Jazma Sutton, Assistant Professor, Miami University, presenting: "Teaching with Digital Archives and Local Libraries: The Jennie Elder Suel and Black Women of Oxford Digital Collection."

For more information about our presenters and their talks, please visit our webpage

Registration is free for ALAO members, $10 for non-members. Consider becoming an ALAO member if you’re interested in attending! An annual ALAO membership is free for students.

SCAig's annual meeting provides an opportunity to gather people with an interest in special collections and archives to learn from changing and continuing practices. With a virtual synchronous event, we hope to reach a wide and diverse audience, and to provide an event that shows how we can support each other in library and archival work and maintain connections and collections in a time of upheaval.
