The Academic Library Association of Ohio (ALAO) is a professional organization that exists to develop, promote, and improve library and information services in Ohio’s higher education community, to advance the interests of academic librarianship and the personnel of academic libraries, and to provide leadership and advocacy for the educational and policy concerns of the academic library community in Ohio. ALAO strives to adopt environmentally sustainable practices in all areas of the association. ALAO is a chapter of the Association of College & Research Libraries (ACRL) and generally ascribes to the ACRL’s Strategic Plan for Excellence.
ALAO advances members’ capacity to experiment with, understand, and apply emerging technologies and expertise to shape standards, resources, and literacies in ways that are accessible, welcoming, and responsive to the communities they serve.
We build partnerships within Ohio’s library workforce, community members, and external stakeholders to broaden our reach, leverage our community’s talents, and deepen our engagement and service as trusted LIS leaders in the region. We approach and steward partnerships with mutual respect, openness, and accountability.
ALAO will seek to operate with human-centered leadership and build on the legacy of its volunteers to strengthen its organizational capacity. We will continue to adapt our procedures to support new members, cultivate collaborative engagement among all levels of membership, and provide leadership and growth opportunities enhancing career and professional development.
The strategic plan will be reviewed each year at the annual board retreat. The Past President will be responsible for drafting an annual report to share with the membership that describes strategic plan activities for the past year.
