ALAO Government Relations Team

What's The Government Relations Team?

The Government Relations Team is the advocacy arm of ALAO.  It follows and responds to both federal and state legislative actions that impact academic libraries in Ohio.  The team consists of:

  • Government Relations Liaison
  • Legislative Advocacy Network

Government Relations Liaison

The ALAO Government Relations Liaison is appointed by the ALAO Executive Board for a three year appointment. The activities of the liaison would include:

  • Monitoring legislative developments that impact academic libraries
  • Coordinates advocacy efforts at the state and federal levels of government
  • Serves as voting member of the ALAO Board
  • Coordinates the Legislative Advocacy Network
  • Serves as liaison to the Ohio Library Council's Government Relations Committee
  • Participates in ALA's Legislative Day 

 The current Government Relations Liaison is Zachary Lewis at advocacy@alaoweb.org.

Advocacy Network

The Advocacy Network is open to all ALAO members and serves as the grassroots voices for issues that impact academic libraries. Advocates can:

  • Assist in monitoring key legislation 
  • Assist the Government Relations Liaison in calling the members to action in responding to specific legislation
  • Maintain communication with legislators at the federal and state levels of government
  • Be eligible to participate in ALA's Legislative Day by applying for the ALAO Legislative Day Travel Award
