The Academic Library Association of Ohio seeks to promoteresearch, and each year the ALAO Executive Board may award up to$500.00 to support and encourage research projects proposed by ALAOmembers. Grants are limited to investigations related to issues inlibraries and librarianship. Information is provided below on how toapply. Additional information about the grant process is alsoprovided on the reverse side of this form.
To apply for research grant funding, applicants should mail thefive-part application to: ALAO Research and PublicationsCommittee, c/o Ohio College Association, P.O. Box 3081, Columbus, OH43210.

All items must be received or postmarked no later than April 24,1999. All applicants will be notified by phone or email when completeapplications are on file.
The ALAO Executive Board may award one or moregrants each year to support and encourage research projects proposedby ALAO members. Both ongoing and new research projects areconsidered. Grants are limited to investigations related to issues inlibraries and librarianship. The total amount awarded in grants eachyear does not exceed $500.00. Grants are intended to help in fundingsuch incremental research costs as the organization of data, thehiring of interviewers or other assistants, charges for computertime, and modest travel costs associated with research. Grants maynot be used for purchase of equipment.
Deadlines and Proposal Review
Proposals must be postmarked no later thanApril 24, 1999. The Committee considers all proposals in consultationwith the ALAO Executive Board. To avoid any conflict of interest,current members of the Committee and the Executive Board are noteligible for grant awards. Further, no member of the Research andPublications Committee evaluates proposals received from a colleagueat the Committee members institution.
In judging proposals, the Committee considers such matters as theuniqueness of the work, the importance of the results to academiclibraries, relationship to other similar work, proposed methodology,and the clarity and completeness of the proposal itself. Preferencewill be given to projects which are to be completed in less than twoyears. Applicants may be asked to provide further information duringthe review process.
Award Notification and Post-Project Report
The chairperson of the Committee will notify grant recipients, ifany, by September 1, 1999. Any award(s) will be announced at both theALAO Annual Conference and in the ALAO Newsletter. Recipients are notrequired to attend the annual conference in order to receive thegrant.
The grantee will submit a summary of the results of the project tothe ALAOI Research and Publications Committee within two months ofcompleting the work. The Committee will submit the summary or anabstract of the report for publication in the ALAO Newsletter. TheCommittee also encourages grantees to summit reports and articles forpublication in the professional literature.
