ALAO Support Staff Interest Group Program Committee Minutes
August 10, 2001

Members Present: Gaynelle Predmore, Karen Ketchaver, Mary Ayres, Doug Morrison, Kathy Snider, Michael Ludle, Brian Hickman and Kelly Sikora Shook.

I. Welcome and Introductions.
Gaynelle welcomed the members present for the meeting. Introductions were made by each of the members present.
II. Announcements.
The ALAO Support Staff Interest Group Spring Conference article written by Kelly Sikora Shook will be in the November/December 2001 Library Mosaics.
A big thank you goes to Doug Morrison for being the moderator for the Support Staff Interest Group email listserv. Doug also deserves a big thank you for all his help with coordinating the guest speaker for the 2002 Support Staff Interest Group Spring Conference.
Mary Ayres, the former chair of SSIG deserves a huge thank you for all her effort and support.
III.
A. Spring Workshop 2001.
  1. Mary Ayres submitted an expense report to the ALAO board.
  2. All expensed incurred have been paid and there was a net income of $763.75.
B. ALAO Annual Conference October 26, 2001.
  1. Poster Session.
    • Michael Ludle is the coordinator of the poster sessions.
    • Please send Michael blurbs on how you handle chaos.
    • Official letter was received from ALAO board that we have a table for our poster session.
    • Michael, Martha and Mary will staff this table during the conference.
  2. 2. Display Table for Support Staff Interest Group
    • Gaynelle and Karen will staff the table.
    • There will be a sign up sheet for Secretary/Chair Elect and committee membership.
    • Gaynelle will design buttons. There will also be notepads, candy and bookmarks available for people who visit the table.
  3. Business Meeting/Program - Reach for the S.T.A.R.S.
    • Gaynelle has started doing research and wants to make the presentation fun.
    • Call for nominations will be made for the Secretary/Chair Elect.
    • Review Purpose, Goals and Objectives for SSIG.
      • Add committees under organizational structure.
        • Program Committee.
        • Issues and Concern.
      • Vote needs to be taken in regards to changes made to document.
    • Committee/Subcommittee Reports.
    • Spring Workshop.
C. Spring Workshop 2002.
  1. A timeline handout was distributed to the committee and reviewed.
  2. Charlie Fox, the editor of Library Mosaics will be the keynote speaker at the 2002 SSIG Spring Workshop.
  3. The dates for the workshop have been confirmed, April 18, 2002 workshop will be held at MOLO in New Philadelpia, Ohio (space for 44 people); April 19, 2002 will be at Bowling Green State University Jerome Library (space for 75 people).
  4. There is no cost involved to rent either site for the workshop.
  5. The theme for the workshop will be "Changing with the Times; Facing the Challenges of Tomorrow."
  6. Food for the workshops.
    • MOLO - no catering is available.
      • 5 restaurants in the area for lunch.
      • Coffee and tea is provided by MOLO.
      • Morning and afternoon snack could be brought in.
    • BGSU - culinary lab is available but there is no stove.
      • Lunch will be on their own. There are restaurants within walking distance.
      • Lunch sign up sheets will be available for restaurants.
  7. Kelly volunteered to do the web flyer, the paper flyer and the mailing of the paper flyers for the workshop.
    • The flyer should be ready by October for Erica Lilly's approval which is needed by December.
    • Mailing labels can be obtained by OCA for $30.00. Kelly will mail the flyers.
    • Flyers should be mailed in February 2002.
    • Include flyer in the March ALAO newsletter.
    • Web mail flyer needs to be linked to the ALAO website talk to Susan Direnzo.
    • Deadline for registration will be April 3, 2002.
    • Cancellations must be received by April 5, 2002.
    • Have a line on the registration form for renewing member or first time member.
    • Confirmation email will be sent when registration is received.
    • Email registration will be available and payment can be made the day of the conference at the registration desk.
  8. Afternoon Session Ideas.
    • Copyright.
    • Relations between workers.
    • Life Paths - $75.00 fee.
    • Ohio authors - theme being explored.
    • Multi-cultural session.
    • Call to support staff who have faced challenges in a positive way.
      • Director of Southern State University.
  9. Business Meeting/Evaulations/Election at the end of the workshop.

    Registration: 8:30 am - 9:00am
    Continental Breakfast
    Welcome: 9:00am - 9:15am
    Speaker: 9:15am - 11:30am (15 minute break)
    Lunch: 11:30am - 1:15pm
    Afternoon Session: 1:15pm - 3:30pm (15 minute break)
    Business Meeting/Evaluations/Election/Door Prizes: 3:30pm - 4:00pm
  11. Folder Assembly
    • Contents need to be discussed.
  12. Evaluation Form.
    • Karen will create.
    • Karen and Michael will tabulate the evaluations.
IV. Start Planning for ALAO SSIG 2002.

  • Brian Hickman, Doug Morrison and Rhenee Harris are the members of the committee.
  • The web site will be simple but informative.
  • Notes from the meeting were submitted to the member of the Program committee.
3. Award Committee.
  • Kelly Sikora Shook, Doug Morrison, Brian Hickman and Becca Griffith are members of this committee.
4. Issues and Concern Committee - Kelly Sikora Shook is the chair of this committee.
5. SSIG Listserv.
  • Doug Morrison is the moderator
  • 75 people on the listserv.

Next meeting will be November 30, 2001 10:30am at MOLO.
