Twice a year the DLIG will present two workshops including a sponsored session at the ALAO Annual Conference, and a spring workshop, held at various Ohio locations

2007 Spring Workshop (Friday, June 15, 2007)
Program: Distance Learning and Libraries: Generational Techniques and Emerging Technologies
Location: Cedar Point Center, BGSU-Firelands Campus
This year's speakers will focus on the roles that libraries play in successful distance learning programs, cover the following topics areas: What a Difference a Generation Makes, Second Life, and WebConferencing. ALAO Annual Conference 2006
The DLIG sponsored a well-attended session at the ALAO Annual Conference in November. Librarians Pat Antonelli from Bowling Green/ Firelands and Nashieli Marcano from the University of Akron presented "Library Instruction Venue: Classroom or Cyberspace."
The DLIG also hosted an information table at the conference. Kathryn Venditti and committee member Melanie Smith staffed the table and had a chance to chat with conference attendees about their interests and ideas for future projects.
Spring Workshop 2005 (Friday, June 2, 2006)
Program: Virtually Anywhere: Innovative Approaches to Library Services for Distance Learners
Location: Ashland University, Ashland—easily accessible in mid-Ohio, three miles west of I-71
This year’s speakers will focus on the role that libraries and librarians play in successful distance learning programs. We will examine the issues affecting resources and services for distance learners, with a special focus on collaboration with teaching faculty, library integration into courseware, instructional design, and the instructional needs of specific populations. Sessions include:
  • Modules and Online Instructional Design Promote Problem-Based Learning, Kelly Broughton (Interim Associate Dean for IT, Bowling Green State University Libraries) and Bonnie Fink (Interim Director, Center for Teaching, Learning, and Technology, Bowling Green State University) -- This session offers discussion on how problem-based learning works for traditional students on campus and non-traditional students online. Discusses how problem-based learning has a direct relationship with adult learning research and online instructional design.
  • The S.A.G.E. Project: a Model for Library Support of Distance Education, Ruey Rodman (Head of Access Service, John A. Prior Health Sciences Library, OSU) -- This presentation describes the collaborative process and the creation of a library resources and services page within the courseware used in a distance education program for non-traditional students at the Ohio State University.
  • Convergence of the Library and the Freshman Experience: Instructional Collaboration and the Online Environment, Christina L. Bonner (Reference & Instruction Services Librarian, Ohio Dominican University) -- This presentation focuses on the librarian as online course component designer and the issues of instructional collaboration using a course management system in a freshman orientation seminar.
