Due to unforeseen circumstances, Aaron Schmidt is unable to conduct a preconference workshop for ALAO this year.

Since you had registered to attend the preconference with Mr. Schmidt, we are offering you your choice from the following options:

Option 1. A preconference workshop on User Experience to be led by Ben Woods, Kent State University.

User Experience Design – an offshoot of Design Thinking – is a powerful competitive tool used by the most successful enterprises in the world. But what is it, and how can it help libraries? First, it is a way of creating innovations that starts with people. Second, for centuries libraries have been an authority for sharing information and cultivating an informed public – but, the availability of information has grown exponentially in the last 20 years – how do libraries remain competitive?  The intersection of these realizations provides exciting opportunities for the future of libraries.

In this workshop, D. Ben Woods from Kent State University will share insights on User Experience Design, its applicability to libraries, and present a proven framework for using UX and Design Thinking to solve your biggest challenges.

Option 2. A second preconference option: From ADA Compliant to Universal Design: An Introduction for Libraries led by L. Scott Lissner, Ohio State University and Jerry Hensley, Wright State University

L. Scott Lissner will provide a brief review of how the ADA’s mandates impact library services with an emphasis on universal design. His presentation will provide best practice examples for compliance with physical spaces and interactions to serve patrons with various disabilities.  Jerry Hensley will discuss ADA compliance and how it relates to digital platforms.  In Jerry’s presentation he will relate how users with disabilities experience our online resources.  He will highlight best practices for website design and accessibility so that we can provide the best experience for all our patrons.

Option 3. Request a refund of your preconference registration fee.
