Change + Design = Innovation: Taking a Design Approach to Achieve Innovation From Change

Academic librarians have made tremendous strides in integrating the library into the teaching and learning process. They have established themselves as campus leaders in harnessing technology for information access and control. Despite good progress, change and innovation remain difficult challenges for many academic libraries - especially when confronted with wicked problems with no easy solutions. Design is all about change. How might we utilize a design approach to leverage change to inspire innovation in our organizations so we give our user community members a better library experience? In this keynote talk, Steven Bell will explore how academic librarians can apply a design approach, a process that designers use to identify problems and develop thoughtful solutions, in their libraries to stimulate ideation, innovation and implementation in times of constant change.
