Keynote Speaker: Joe Janes
Joseph Janes currently serves as assistant professor at the Information School of the University of Washington. He is interested in reference, particularly in the use of technologies to mediate and assist, and the use of networked resources in reference. His research is on models of practice in digital reference. He teaches courses in reference, online searching, research methods and statistics, and on the use of Internet technologies in librarianship. Janes holds an M.L.S. and a Ph.D. in Information Transfer from Syracuse University.
Dr. Janes previously taught in the library and information science programs at North Carolina, SUNY Albany, Syracuse and Michigan. At Michigan, he was the Founding Director of the Internet Public Library.
Among his accomplishments are frequent program contributions to ALA, ALISE and other professional organizations as well as to the professional literature. In February, a Barnes&Noble.com author search for Joseph Janes returned 9 listings; at Amazon.com, 8 listings (4 in Reference and 4 in the Computers and Internet category).
In August, Joe was named the new "Internet Librarian" columnist for American Libraries, the magazine of the American Library Association
